Our History
RNS Incorporated is a specialized provider of supplemental nurses, traveling nurses and other health-care professionals. The company was founded in 1989 by a group of nurses who shared the common goal of creating a supplemental staffing agency that could fulfill the challenging staffing needs of healthcare facilities in a quick and competent manner. The company began with a little bit of personal savings, and a ton of dedication to the nursing industry and patient care.
Today, RNS provides services to over 30 facilities in the Bay Area, Sacramento, and Central Valley regions. We employ over 200 RNs, LVNs, and CNAs with various backgrounds, skill levels, and specialties. RNS is a privately held, minority and women-owned business enterprise that continues to remain a competitive force in the medical staffing industry.
RNS is a Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) approved continuing education provider (CEP-14794) and was recently awarded JCAHO’s Gold Seal of Approval for Health Care Staffing Services. RNS operates with a focus on quality and safety of health care and relies on its clients, employees, and the public to report concerns or issues with patient care provided by our employees. If you have any concerns with the quality and safety of patient care provided by RNS and/or its employees, you are encouraged to contact our President and Director of Nursing, Ester Cody at ester@rnsonline.com or at 800.704.4401. If the concerns cannot be resolved with our President, you are encouraged to contact The Joint Commission by phone 800.994.6610 or by email at complaint@jcaho.org. Under no circumstances will RNS take any sort of disciplinary action against any employee who reports safety or quality of care concerns to The Joint Commission.
What Makes RNS Incorporated Different?
RNS takes our client and employee satisfaction levels very seriously. To do this, we found that personal relationships were the key to our success and uniqueness. We maintain a core of valued long time clients who, throughout the years, have come to know that they can rely on RNS for quality, skilled nursing professionals.
Unlike many of our competitors, we actually meet our nurses face to face, and develop lasting personal relationships with them. We pride ourselves on being an agency that works FOR our nurses, and we do our best to always show them that they are valued and appreciated.
Our goal is not to be the largest staffing agency, but to be the most trusted, honest, and reputable agency. There are no hidden strings when working with RNS!!

Direct Understanding
RNS was founded by nurses, for nurses. It was created from a direct understanding of nursing practices and the management of nursing staff. Today, a majority of our corporate staff still possesses hands on nursing experience, as both staff and head nurses.
24-Hour Assistance
Our focus is to be a strategic staffing partner to all of our employees and clients by providing 24-hour service. At RNS we understand availability and communication are critical components to the success of not only our organization, but to our employees and our clients as well. All clients have the ability to reach a RNS staffing coordinator 24-hours a day to make staffing requests or to address issues and concerns. Our staffing coordinators are experienced at handling and responding to emergencies any time of the day or night, including holidays, and weekends. In addition, each staffing coordinator has direct access to the Director of Nursing who is able to assist in resolving important issues immediately.
Staffing Solutions
In working with RNS our clients are given the convenience and flexibility to assist in handling seasonal census fluctuations, vacations, turnover, leaves of absence or long-term staff shortages, while allowing our clients to provide continuity of care to their patients. RNS tailors its two standard staffing solutions to meet the specific short to long terms needs of each of our clients.
Our Supplemental Staffing Program is designed to assist clients with their short and mid-term needs. We can provide nursing professionals to handle last minute unexpected staffing shortages or mid-range assignments to handle planned absences. In addition, RNS has worked with several client facilities to create block schedules for our nurses. This gives the facilities the ability to fill their guaranteed needs, without having to commit to long contracts.
Our Travel Nurse Program solution offers the optimal continuity of care to your patients. Contracts are normally several weeks in length, which has proven to be highly conducive in above board competency results, efficiency gains in patient care, and team fostering with peers. A standard travel nurse contract is for 4, 8, or 13 weeks, but can be shortened or lengthened according to our client's needs.
Recruitment
At RNS, we look for the most professional and competent nurses to provide top-notch services to our clients. We advertise our needs in various newspapers, magazines, and online outlets. However, regardless of the number of advertisements we place each year, we have found that a majority of our health-care professionals still come to us via personal referral from existing RNS nurses. We take pride in this statistic as it shows our nurses value us as well.
Hiring Process
All potential nursing professionals must undergo a strict qualification and screening process before they are officially hired as an RNS employee. The hiring process is conducted by a qualified Recruiter / Staffing Coordinator, but all personal interviews and final hiring decisions are made by the Director of Nursing.
Our hiring process begins with each healthcare professional meeting our Pre-Employment Standards. The applicant fills out an application for employment, skills checklist(s) for each area of specialty, an age related skills checklist, a background screening authorization, a drug testing authorization form, and two (2) professional reference forms. Furthermore, each applicant must prove that he/she has at least one (1) year of clinical experience, a current license issued by the State of California, the appropriate Life Support credentials for his/her area of specialty, a completed health examination, and screenings for Rubella, Rubeola, Varicella, Hepatitis B, and TB.
After the applicant has met all Pre-Employment Standards, he/she must then go through RNS, Inc.'s Qualification Process that involves a personal interview, skills testing, as well as documentation and information validation. The Recruiter reviews the completed application forms, and exams to determine the applicant's qualifications, and to identify specific expectations or additional learning needs. The applicant's license is examined and verified, and the applicant's employment eligibility is also verified and documented. Finally, the applicant is interviewed by the Director of Nursing and a final hiring decision is made.
Once the applicant has been approved by the Director of Nursing, the applicant must undergo our Orientation process to ensure that he/she has a clear understanding of RNS and our client's policies, procedures and expectations. In addition to the standard RNS orientation, an individualized competency-based orientation program is developed based on the results of the skills assessment(s) completed by each employee, and a client specific orientation is also given (if provided by the client). RNS has found that by providing its nursing professionals with specialized, and sometimes multiple, orientations they are better prepared to face any task at any client facility. |
